Oh if you could see us now!
How proud ~ and shocked ~ you’d be
if only then you could see
the life we’re living.
The ocean air, the waves in our hair
living (mostly) without a care
in the world.
Oh if you could see us now!
Grief, anxiety, frustration, happiness
all wrapped up in one another, tightly
intertwined
like vines
growing that way and this
what else have we missed?
Time.
A hard start, a shift in the mind.
Wind me up like a music box
and let me
sing.
Let me scream and let me yell
don’t let me sell
my soul, but let me be well.
Let the grief stop
plop
like rain drops
dancing on windows. Windows to other places
tie our shoelaces
and leave the house for air.
And then, we remember we do care.
Or do we?
Back and forth, this whiplash
hurts.
And sometimes, everything else hurts, too.
Oh what to do?
Oh if you could see us now!
Growing up and growing old
Seeing the world become cold.
It’s sad, but you would be proud
of us… oh if you could see us now.
Our life is one we dreamed of.
Let me give you a hug
and tell you that
we made it.
Oh if you could see us now!
You’d bow
your head and maybe, just maybe
believe me when I say
“I love you, we got this, and
it’ll all be okay”.
Oh… if you could see us now.

What are your thoughts?
