Morning Rituals

Routine is important because it helps you set habits, but sometimes the word “routine” can feel like a negative thing.

I choose to use the word “ritual”, because it allows me to have a more positive outlook on the tasks I do.

My morning ritual is simple. I wake up, I make my morning coffee, and (depending on the time) I’ll either sit down on the couch and read a book or write for my blog OR I’ll have my morning coffee while I’m logging on for work.

When I wake up with enough time to read a book or write for my blog, I feel better about my day because it makes me feel more productive before just logging on for work. It also gives me the time to complete my morning skincare routine, which is always ideal! BUT I’ll be honest with you, there are days I just cannot get out of bed in the morning and will wait until the very last second before rolling out of bed, making coffee, and logging on for work. Luckily I work from home so I get to remain in my pjs if I so choose.

I LOVE to wake up around 6:30am. That gives me more than enough time to get my ritual done. With that much time, I’m able to make a cooked breakfast, too!

As I’m experiencing my morning ritual, I make sure to exude a grateful attitude because (not only does it help my plants grow!!!, but) it allows me to feel like I GET to do things, instead of like I HAVE to do things. And that’s the biggest difference in the tone that’s set for my day ahead.

Next time you have a routine, especially one you don’t particularly enjoy, try thinking of it as a ritual instead, and be thankful for the chance you GET to complete it, instead of feeling bogged down by the phrase “I have to”.
